Curriculum Vitae

I was born in 1969 in Zwickau, Germany. From 1988-1995 I studied Medicine at the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg, Germany, Pritzker Medical School, University of Chicago and Tufts University, Boston. In 1996 I started my training in Internal Medicine and Nephrology at the Hannover Medical School. I am board certified Internist (since 2004) and Nephrologist (since 2006). After finishing a two year postdoctoral research fellowship in the Vascular Biology Program at Stanford University in I became Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Nephrology and Hypertension at the Medical School Hannover. From 2011 to 2015 I worked as Associate Professor, heading Critical Care Nephrology Division at Hannover Medical School since 2014.

In July 2015 I became Director of the Medical Clinic V | Nephrology and Hypertension at the City Hospital Braunschweig a 1,400 hospital bed tertiary care teaching hospital.

My teaching experience of almost 20 years includes the full course of Internal Medicine for nursing students; physical examination and a clinical course on differential diagnosis in Internal Medicine for Medical students; Vascular Pathobiology as part of the Biodesign Innovation Fellows Boot camp (Director: Paul J. Wang, MD) Stanford School of Medicine. I successfully completed the PRECEPT workshop on Teaching and Course Design at Stanford University in 2005. Under my direct supervision so far 16 Medical Doctors successfully earned their degree “Dr. med.”.

I am section editor for Case Reports in Nephrology and Dialysis as well as Editorial Board member of "Die Nephrologie" and member of the Board of Trustees of the International Society for Apheresis (ISFA).
